Glock 43X, and why I’m not buying one

Glock 43X

I left the house today because I needed to feel productive, and I haven’t been to a gun shop in a couple of weeks. I decided that I wanted to put the Glock 43X in my hands and check it. The 43X was supposed to become my new EDC gun, but that plan has drastically changed.

Why I thought I wanted a Glock 43X

The size of this gun is what seems like the perfect bridge that Glock has been lacking. The Glock 19 has been a fan favorite for years, but some people think it is slightly too large. The Glock 19 is on the larger side of what can be considered compact. Glock made the G43 to give 9mm carriers the option of a smaller handgun without reaching sub compact sizes, and many rejoiced.

There are those who have not rejoiced though. The Glock 43 takes a single stack magazine that only allows for 6 rounds. The Glock 43X uses a 10 round, double stacked magazine. I think that this is an excellent compromise for my money and the increased concealability with what I consider to be adequate capacity is something that I saw in my near future.

Dectractors of the Glock 43X

There are some complaints from people about the gun, and they do have some validity. I am fully prepared to live with them though, and here’s my reasoning.

The slide is hideous. I agree with that and I don’t know why anybody would think that the color combo was a good idea. I talked with Dillon Forst, owner of AccuTac Arms in Lakeville MN, today and his source told him that Glock thought people wanted 2 tone guns. Somebody might have said that as a joke and Glock took it seriously, or maybe Glock marketing is out of touch with their customers. Either way, I can live with the colors since the gun will spend most of its time in a holster and not on display.

Others claim that the sight radius is too short, especially when you can get a Glock 48 for the same price. To that I wonder just how far of a shot people feel comfortable shooting in a real-world situation with their EDC pistol. I am fully comfortable shooting my full sized handguns past 100 feet, but when there are innocent civilians running around and adrenaline is spiked I will likely not take a shot nearly that far. A CCW pistol is meant for close range encounters, and it’s not a sniper rifle. I’m fine with a short sight radius that allows me to acquire a sight picture quickly.

So, what’s my problem with the Glock 43X?

The trigger is absolutely atrocious on the Glock 43X. I am well aware that Glock is not known for having great triggers. I have pulled many Glock triggers in the past and I know what to expect with them. However, the fact that it is 2019, we are currently on Gen 5 of Glock perfection and the trigger feels like dragging a wet anchor across a sandy beach is unsatisfactory.

There is a normal “Glock” amount of take up in the trigger, then a long and gritty pull to what ends with an unremarkable break. The reset is longer than I expected, and also gritty. I don’t think that the trigger pull is especially heavy, but probably a good weight for a carry gun (5ish pounds if I had to guess), but it just feels like unrefined plastic rubbing on the same. I’d expect that of a Taurus or SCCY, but not Glock.

I thought maybe Glock Gen 5 all have crappy triggers then, and this is just their new jam. Nope, the Glock 19 Gen 5 pulled pretty much as I expected it to. Very mediocre and unremarkable, but certainly manageable.

I love the idea of the Glock 43X, but I cannot bring myself to buy one.

  1. You are an evil and unworthy person for not liking & owning every Glock ever made. Next you’ll be telling us that Canik makes a better pistol. Bah!

The Glock trigger drag is a FEATURE, not a flaw. It insures sufficient time to reconsider your shot, clarify you aim, and contemplate the three years of court you’re about to unleash on you & your family.

The slide color is intended to fool your assailant into thinking you’ve pulled a Kahr, so he starts laughing while you nail him, much to his surprise.

I’ll hear no more about this anti-Glock stuff. You’re racist!

  2. Agreed.

I bought one and had 6 FTF on my first 150 rounds. I cleaned and oiled beforehand and used Fitchi jhp and federal hp. Could I have limpwristed? If so, that did not make my 19 or regular 43 jam.

I will clean it and try again but I am pissed I spent $600 on a a Glock I have zero confidence in.

    1. Sorry to hear about that experience. It can be really frustrating to drop some hard earned cash on “perfection” and not get what you thought you were paying for. I’ve heard from a lot of happy customers, so I’m not going to discount it as a good gun yet. I am happy with the purchase I made instead though.

  3. So I was given a 43x, it shoots fine and is very accurate, no issues. This being said, I have carried my G27 for years and it just works, but it is bulky. Both are very accurate at 50 yards but the 43x carries much nicer due to it’s slim single stack contour. I only have 50 rounds through the 43x, the G27 has never had any type of hiccup with approx 3500 rounds. Time will tell on the 43X reliability.

  4. I bought a 43X and took it out yesterday. The first 2 magazines fired perfectly, but the third time I loaded the magazine and tried to shot, the gun jammed on all 10 rounds

  5. After going over a few of the articles on your site, I truly appreciate your way of blogging. I bookmarked it to my bookmark site list and will be checking back soon. Please check out my web site as well and tell me what you think. Florie Randal Thibault

  6. I purchased a 43x and Ghost connector to help with the trigger pull with little positive results. I have found that Ghost connectors work well in the 43, 19, 22, 23, and 26. Not as good in the 42 or 42x as related above.

  7. I have one Glock, I conceal carry an older G43 with Taran Tactical base plates.
Unfortunately Glock has lost its innovative edge due to them thinking they are still the king of reliability and charging prices to match.

As a result of living off past fame for too long there are other companies out there doing it better and cheaper than Glock. These other companies are more attentive and listen to their customer base.

Glock needs to catch up because we are on Gen 5 and we are still getting shitty triggers, grips that flex and crap sights to match, cmon Glock your customers deserve better!

  8. Every weekend i used to go to see this web page, because
